Paul S. Hoffman - Space Art in VRML
Mystery/Adventure: "On an Alien Moon"  (See Synopsis and Hints)  (See Animated Tour)
This is a space mystery/adventure - there are four different scenes and an epilogue, starting on this moon orbiting an alien world. There is an underlying mystery, an alien language to decipher, and a task you must perform. You will need a sense of curiosity (only by exploring and trying things can you find out how to move between worlds), and some puzzle-solving ability (deciphering the alien language and numerical system). No cookies are used, so you start from scratch each time you start off. But, you do have to access certain information or decipher something in order to move all the way to the end. This project has been tested in CosmoPlayer 2.1.1, Contact 4.3, and Cortona 2.2. The scripting is done entirely in Javascript.
The IrishSpace Project
The IrishSpace Project was a volunteer effort by an ad hoc group which came together through the Internet. Over the course of a 3-month period we conceived, executed, and delivered an interactive space adventure for the children of Ireland. The progam was installed at the Kerry County Museum in Tralee, County Kerry, as part of Ireland's first exhibition ever on Space Exploration.
In the years since 1997, the Hubble Space Telescope and several robotic spacecraft have provided better and better images of the planets. The current version takes advantage of those new visions.
A Tribute to Chesley Bonestell
Chesley Bonestell (1888-1986) was the father of Space Art. His illustrations of astronomical subjects and the space-travel concepts of visionaries such as Wernher von Braun set our collective visions on the stars and inspired many of the folks who have planned and executed our achievements in space.
I have re-created in VRML some scenes depicted by Bonestell in the famous Colliers magazine series on how we could reach the Moon with technology available in the 1950's.
"Terraforming Mars"
Terraforming has begun on Mars in this scene - with comet chunks falling and a dust storm circling.
